Engine ECU Remapping for performance, fuel economy and driveability

ECU remapping is the process of re-programming your existing OEM engine control unit (ECU) to obtain more performance, better fuel economy and improved driveability from your car, van, motorbike or boat. This is sometimes also known as chip tuning or ECU chipping, this refers to the fact that it is the chip within the ECU that is being re-programmed when carrying out ECU remapping.

Engine Management Systems

Lloyd Specialist Developments have built an excellent reputation for our work with fully programmable standalone engine management systems on specialist and classic vehicles. This means that we fully understand what is required to make an engine perform well in terms of performance, economy and driveability. With our state of the art 4-wheel drive Dynapack chassis dynamometer, we have extensive experience of tuning a very wide range of vehicles – from single cylinder motorbikes to 16-cylinder cars.

Modern vehicles already have fairly advanced engine management systems as standard so standalone engine management conversions are not usually required. Thanks to our reputation, we have had an increasing number of enquiries for remaps on modern vehicles.

OEM ECUs that we can remap include:

Alfa Romeo, Aston Martin, Audi, BMW, Chevrolet, Citroen, Ferrari, Fiat, Ford, GM, Holden, Honda, Jaguar, Land-Rover, Lotus, Maserati, Mazda, Mercedes, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Peugeot, Porsche, Renault, SAAB, Subaru, Suzuki, Toyota, Vauxhall, Volvo and VW.

ECU Remapping

Engine ECU Remapping for performance and economy gains

We can provide remaps for performance, fuel economy or in quite a few cases improvements in both performance and fuel economy. We can also tailor the maps to your individual requirements – if you use your vehicle for towing for example.

The scope for improvements with your particular engine depends on the type of engine and whether any additional hardware improvements have been made. Please use the simple form on this page to see what typical performance and/or economy gains we can make with a remap on your particular vehicle.

As a general rule, turbocharged petrol and diesel engines can be noticeably improved with remaps of the existing ECU. Naturally aspirated engines sometimes also require hardware changes to make significant gains in performance.

We usually check the vehicle for fault codes using a diagnostic scan-tool before carrying out a remap. There is no additional charge for this unless we have to abort the remap due to existing faults with the vehicle, in which case there will be a small charge to cover our time. If you do have existing faults with your vehicle we can also provide diagnostic services at competitive prices.

Ford Focus on the Dyno

Measuring the benefits on our Dyno

A dyno session will allow you to know for certain how much horse-power and torque has been gained with your vehicle. With petrol engines we also carry out fuel mixture checks throughout the dyno session with a wideband AFR sensor. With turbo-charged and supercharged cars we can also monitor and record the boost levels via the Dynapack dyno software to ensure that it is all working as it should.

We can offer all of our remaps with or without a dyno session, depending on customer budget and requirements.

Prices start at £250 plus VAT for a remap without a dyno session, or £350 plus VAT for a remap with a dyno session. Some modern ECUs need to be removed from the vehicle for programming (called bench programming), the cost of a remap with these types of ECU is from £350 plus VAT without a dyno session, or from £450 plus VAT with a dyno session. Please contact us with your requirements.
